A Holy and Merry Christmas

23 December 2023

Dear Faithful, dear Friends and Benefactors,

A holy and merry Christmas to all of you! Christmas 2023! A Christmas that comes after so many other Christmas!

We are heirs. Heirs to a long succession of Christians who have known, loved and served God. Christians who practiced the most heroic virtues, sometimes to the point of martyrdom. Christians who have received and transmitted a Faith that is ever living and which must remain as it was revealed by God and taught by His Church until the glorious return of our divine Savior, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Gaudete in Domino! Let us rejoice in the Lord! Let us rejoice: let us not be sad, pessimistic, bitter and hard-hearted. In the Lord: let the goods of the earth be the object of our greatest contempt. Our joy must be in God, and in no other. “To whom shall we go, Lord, Thou have the words of Eternal Life!” (John VI, 68) The Lord himself is the Word of Eternal Life, being the “Word” of God. This Word became incarnate, took human flesh and soul, for us and for our salvation. Gaudete in Domino!

Let us constantly repeat this great truth: we, Christians, are not contemplators of the evil that surrounds us. We are contemplators of God, of his truth, of his majesty, of his beauty, of his goodness, of his love, of his mercy. Anyone who stops at the vicissitudes of this life to be desolate and distressed by them is not sufficiently attentive to the true object of his contemplation: the one and triune God. Let us be among the number of saints, among those who stand at the foot of the cross of the Savior: stabat Mater dolorosa! Like the Virgin, let us keep in our heart “all these things”, that is to say everything that is divine, everything that comes from the mouth of the Incarnate Word.

May the divine Child fill you all with his joy and peace during the new year of the Lord 2024! “Haec dies quam fecit Dominus, exultemus et laetemur in ea!” This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and exult in it!

With my blessing and all the affection and prayers of the community of Our Lady of Joy Mission,

Father Pierre Roy

Mercy

«Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the feeble, and the blind, and the lame.» Luc XIV, 21

Dear friends,

As many as we are in our Missions, we are part I believe of these poor people the Lord has commanded to gather from the streets and the lanes of the city. Poor, feeble, blind an lame.

I will always remember celebrating Holy Mass in Prince Edward Island, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Mission, a mission dear to my heart. We were saying Mass in the breakfast room of a hotel. The only place where confessions could be heard was the kitchen, a greasy one. Between the cornflakes, a few old pancakes and left over dirty jam containers, we had to put our kneeler. The priest would have to gather together his cassock to prevent it from dragging on the floor and keep it somewhat clean.

A swimming pool was next to it. We had to cover the windows during the hot days of summer to avoid unwanted distractions. The only place we could afford…

When the dear Faithful were entering the room, you should have seen the spectacle. A few were almost literally blind. They needed others to guide them to the room. Others were almost deaf. Wheel chairs, canes, we had everything. One could have thought : how is God going to do anything with such people? And yet, the Lord brought many families into this place He had chosen, many of which have now moved to Stilesville. They all commend the brave ones who kept the Masses going on Prince Edward Island, thus allowing them to find it, as «a needle in a haystack».

«O the depth of the riches of the wisdom and of the knowledge of God! How incomprehensible are his judgments, and how unsearchable his ways! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? Or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and recompense shall be made him?» Romans 11, 33-35

We are the blind, the deaf, the mute, the lame that God in his mercy has chosen to attend his banquet. Some were in the darkness of false religions, blaspheming, without knowing, the most sacred dogmas of the Church. God has brought them to the light of the True Faith and to his One Church. How merciful is the Lord! Others were sitting in sin, in despair. Burdened by the weight of their failures, they could see no way out and no hope. God has taken them by the hand and lead them to repentance and salvation, showing Himself to be the Good Shepherd. I, as the priest, know the story of each and all. I know my own weakness. Yes, indeed, we are the blind, the deaf, the mute and the lame.

This, my dear friends, teaches us how merciful we must be. Mercy is the heart of Jesus. His mercy calls for repentance and conversion, but no man should dare condemning another man whom Jesus has not condemned. Our divine Religion is one of salvation, not one of condemnation. Each must have a merciful heart, because each has been saved by the Lord. The world is one of condemnation, not of salvation. The world does not believe in the remission of sins. We do because God does.

«The mercies of the Lord I will sing for ever. I will shew forth thy truth with my mouth to generation and generation. For thou hast said: Mercy shall be built up for ever in the heavens: thy truth shall be prepared in them.» Psalm 88, 2-3

Sursum Corda! May God bless you all!

Perseverance

13 November 2023

Dear friends,

perseverance is key to salvation. Our lives are not a peaceful sea. On the contrary, everyone faces storms and contrary winds. Perseverance overcomes everything. Our Lord asked us to take up our cross every day and follow Him.

Life in Stilesville is calm. Fall is an important season when one lives in Canada. It precedes Winter and is its preparation. Many things had to be done this year. Bringing the wood in the basement was one of them. We had a great team of workers and were able to bring seven cords of wood inside. Two years worth of warmth for the rectory. Many thanks to the young fellows who helped us! Sister is preparing to plant the garlic before the ground freezes. Planting too early is a problem, as the garlic sprouts and freezes. Planting too late is a problem, as the ground is frozen. Just like virtue, it sits in the middle of two excesses.

Our classes are continuing. Thank God, we have been quite faithful to not miss a single class or catch it up if we missed one. We have to cover the whole spiritual life this year, as a great review on how to save one’s soul and protect oneself from all forms of evil. Studies are important for future priests and religious. The Church insists that the clergy be well learned in Sacred Science. No laziness then and no time to loose.

Greta and Ursula, the two pigs, should be in the freezer by the end of this week. The poor creatures are in the mud and it is about time to get them out of there. Raising pigs is a decent amount of work… It provides a good source of food to the community.

We were delighted to receive the visit of Father Pinaud this week. Father seemed happy at the progress of the Mission these last three years. He brought us from France a nice set of chandeliers. After a good cleaning and some adaptions, they should find their place in our church. He went back to France today and will join back his flock. We are very thankful for his efforts to bring some more Masses to Québec where a large number of Faithful struggle to be able to attend the Holy Sacrifice.

Lots of discreet hands are making the life of our parish and missions possible : cleaning the church, washing the sacred linens, sowing at home for the church, preparing the music, helping with construction, and so many other things. May God reward everyone who gives his time to restore his Church in all places.

Sursum Corda! May God bless you all!

Fall and its Beauty

22 September 2023

Dear friends,

is it only me or is time going faster and faster? In any case, here are the latest from the community at Our Lady of Joy Mission.

Classes have started. After the summer French classes, given almost every morning, we have switched to Ascetic and Mystic Theology almost every morning as well. We follow Father Adolphe Tanqueray’s treaty. I give these classes in French in order to continue practicing what the students have learned this summer. It is so easy to forget if we don’t practice. We are blessed also to have a parishioner who gives a class of Latin every week and Father Ahern two classes of Holy Scripture. Both of these classes are given in English, with Holy Scripture being an online class. It is a requirement at Our Lady of Joy Mission, given our particular circumstances, for the members of the community to all be able to communicate in both languages. This adds a layer of difficulty to the formation but, with God’s grace, it is doable and very enriching to the whole community.

The rectory at Fall

Manual work has not yet diminished. It will calm down, God willing, during winter. In the meantime, Connor and Nicolas have started chinking and staining the Convent of the Holy Face, in order to protect its wood and make it last long. We have been busy keeping Ursula and Greta, the two pigs, in their fence. They dig and dig and dig all day and eventually dig out the fence… I cannot wait until they join their final resting place in the freezer. After having dug most of the area under the electric power lines, they should end their work by digging the potato garden and fertilizing it until November or December.

The new hens have started laying a few eggs. Quite small eggs for now, but they should grow bigger. The old hens, a few pigeons, many roosters and rabbits, as well as Alfred the goose are all in the freezer. The goose was named after Alfred Loisy, a famous modernist. He well deserved his slaughter! Two hundred trouts have been put in the pound. We hope to be more successful than last time with the trouts being much larger this time. Potatoes have been dug out and are stored for winter. We went on the beach to collect some dry sand to burry the carrots and keep them longer. We were hoping to get a few clams, mussels and oysters at the same time, but were not so fortunate and saw mostly razor shells. A nice resting walk on the shore in Cap-Pelé though.

This week’s main work was to cut the basement concrete and install a door. This was a hard work! This afternoon, the house was filled with dust, and Sister Véronique was busy cleaning… But we have a door in and it is now a matter of cleaning the basement as well. This will double the size of the house, since it is not very inviting to go in a basement with almost no daylight and no door. In the coming week, we should bring in almost seven cords of hardwood which should heat the rectory for the next two years.

Among other things, we must change a few pieces on Nicolas and Connor’s cars, so as to keep them running and make them a bit more presentable. The two young men went to an auto scrap yard to find the pieces they needed. We will have to go peek on the church’s roof to fix a few shingles before winter. We will also order the wood to build the new shelves for the library in the parish hall down in the basement. No idleness in Stilesville, that’s for sure!

It was a great joy to sing Vespers for the first time with Connor and Nicolas last Sunday. They did pretty well, I must say! They should start singing a bit more at Mass as well, once they are done being trained to serve in all positions at Sung Mass. We should be able to reintroduce our Offertory songs by Advent, God willing.

As you can understand, after the summer vacation, the community will have to hunker down as usual until Christmas. It is part of the religious formation to remain isolated from the outside world most of the time, and to dedicate ourselves to silence, prayer, studies and work. Please respect this necessity of religious life and pray for us as we pray for you and prepare ourselves to better serve God and your families.

Do not give up your prayer life! Prayer is the way to Heaven! It is so easy to fall into spiritual laziness, also call «acedia». The soul is slowly deprived of its communication with God. Starving to death, it becomes a prey to the devil, and to all kinds of vices, and looses any interest in spiritual things. A sad state indeed!

October will see the start of the «Synod on Synodality» in the Vatican. Another Pachamamy. No matter what they decide there, you can be quite positive they will not condemn Vatican II and come back to Tradition. Patience. God is in charge! We continue on our path, that is all we can do.

Sursum Corda! May God bless you all!

Pachamamies

30 August 2023

Dear friends,

September is almost upon us and we have to get used to the idea that Summer is over. Seasons follow their endless cycle and the years of our life pass away.

«Man's days are as grass, as the flower of the field so shall he flourish. For the spirit shall pass in him, and he shall not be: and he shall know his place no more. But the mercy of the Lord is from eternity and unto eternity upon them that fear him: And his justice unto children's children, to such as keep his covenant, and are mindful of his commandments to do them.» Psalm 102, 15-18

The new barn

For some reason, Fall calls to mind the moment of Judgment, when each will have to render an account of his deeds. Those who followed truth and loved it will be praised if they added good works to their hatred of lies. Those who loved lies will be condemned, no matter their deeds. We see that the love of truth is the most important thing and the basis of salvation. In the present crisis of the Church, few are those who love truth. Most are happy with one form or another of lie. Lie makes your life more comfortable… for a short time. Holy Scripture in the last chapter of its last book, the Apocalypse, has no tender words for such people : «Without are dogs, and sorcerers, and unchaste, and murderers, and servers of idols, and every one that loveth and maketh a lie.» Apoc. 22, 15

It always surprises me how people who call themselves Catholic can resist obvious truth. Everyone knows that Francis is a deceiver. Even non-Catholics will tell you : «What’s wrong with your pope?» And yet, with no fear of God’s judgment, one will easily forget that the man sitting on the throne of Peter has been organizing the systematic destruction of the Catholic Faith, following the path of his recent predecessors of unhappy memory. Laudato Si, a pantheistic «encyclical» pushing the climate change hoax. Amoris Laetitia, an «apostolic exhortation» pushing adultery under the guise of love. The worship of the Pachamama idol in the very gardens of the Vatican. Receiving in the Vatican the most abominable personages, including the very statue of Martin Luther. This man could grow horns and tail and people would still pledge their allegiance to him. «For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect.» Matth. 24, 24 Some were even convinced for almost ten years that Benedict was the true pope while Francis was an imposter. Dies Benedict, and, lo and behold, Francis has become the true pope! As if the death of Benedict suddenly made my grandmother a pope!? «But Father, your grandmother cannot be a pope, because one needs to be a male in order to be a pope!» - «Right! But the male sex is not the only condition for one to be validly elected a pope. One also needs to be a Catholic. This is most certainly a more severe requirement than to be a male.» And everyone that loveth and maketh a lie… Enough Pachamamies…

The bees are calm. The new hives have each raised a new queen now laying eggs. Amazing… We might have to combine two of the hives before Winter though if their reserves are not sufficient for the long winterizing. They did cap quite a bit of honey, but winter is long.

Father Daniel Ahern will visit us next week for the feast of the Nativity of Our Lady. Always a great joy to see him! Father Nicolas Pinaud should also come over from France at the end of October. We still have some friends, after all. But friends are nothing if they are not above all brothers in Faith. Father Ahern and Father Pinaud can be counted among the few who have not compromised. Anathema means anathema to them. No Pachamamies!

Pigeons, hens, rabbits, everyone has moved to the new barn. Some call it Noah’s ark. There is a ressemblance for sure! Harvest has arrived and is most welcome. Hundreds of garlic cloves and almost 500 onions are drying up before being stored. Potatoes are ready. Carrots have never been so big. Big bouquets of spices are hanging in the rectory, the best air freshener ever! Squashes are maturing for the lenten soups. Zucchinis double in size in a matter of days. A happy season indeed!

«Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth: and a door round about my lips. Incline not my heart to evil words; to make excuses in sins. With men that work iniquity: and I will not communicate with the choicest of them.» Psalm 140, 3-4

Bees and More

5 August 2023

Dear friends,

Anathema to the Novus Ordo sect! Anathema to Vatican II! Anathema to the New Mass! Anathema to false eucumenism! Anathema to all the Bergoglians and other Pachamama worshippers! Anathema to all those who want to make peace with Francis and his team! Anathema to all those who invent a new Church that is not infallibly guiding our souls in the way of truth!

What is going on with Father Roy tonight? No doubt, he must have been stung by all the 50 thousand bees that are living in his hive!

We live in a great battle. This battle is one for the Catholic Faith, nothing short of that. It is a battle for salvation, because Faith is necessary for salvation. This battle has very heavy consequences in our lives. If we defend the Faith without compromise, we do not fit anywhere. We do not fit in the modern world, because it is one that has rejected christianity. We do not fit in the Novus Ordo, because they are a new religion, totally strange to the True Religion instituted by Our Lord Jesus Christ. We do not fit in the mainstream Traditionalist movement, because what we say and do is a constant reproach to their compromises. We are condemned to live apart from nearly everyone and to be deemed a sect by some, schismatics, extremists, rigid people for others.

And yet, there is a profound joy in walking on the path of Truth! We are considered «as deceivers, and yet true; as unknown, and yet known; as dying, and behold we live; as chastised, and not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as needy, yet enriching many; as having nothing, and possessing all things.» (2 Cor. 6, 8-10)

This time we live in has been prophesied many times. Saint Paul has spoken about the great apostasy of end time : «Let no man deceive you by any means, for unless there come a revolt first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, who opposeth, and is lifted up above all that is called God, or that is worshipped, so that he sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself as if he were God.» (2 Thess. 2, 3-4) Our Lady in La Salette said that «Rome will lose the Faith and become the seat of Antichrist.» Anne-Catherine Emmerich : «The Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.» Pope Leo XIII in is Exorcism prayer : «These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on her most sacred possessions. In the Holy Place itself, where the See of Holy Peter and the Chair of Truth has been set up as the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be dispersed.» Let us hold on and have no doubt that we are doing the right thing : refusing all compromise; keeping our Faith undefiled; attending a Mass that is not defiled with a declaration of communion with ungodly men; receiving the Sacraments where the so called jurisdiction of the ungodly is rejected.

The community has been busy with building a more decent barn to keep all animals in one location and organize the chores better to make it quicker to look after the many inhabitants of our property. Our bees have been willing to swarm and it has been necessary to split the very busy hive in three smaller ones. In the next few weeks, two new queens should fly their nuptial flight and start laying eggs in the two new hives. It is late in the season, but the bees decide…

Tomorrow we are going to bless Saint Peter in Chains chapel, close to Grand Falls. A great joy for the inhabitants of the region who have been starving to death in the Novus Ordo, or the nervous disorder as some call it. It will be a nice little chapel! Thank God!

Our French classes go well and Connor and Nicolas are learning fast, making now quite elaborate sentences! We are hoping to start with Latin in September and Father Ahern has offered to include them in an online Scripture class he gives to other seminarians. September will also be when we are going to start with the Spirituality class, following the Ascetical and Mystical Treaty of Father Adolphe Tanqueray.

A few projects are still on the menu for the rest of the summer : staining the Convent to protect the wood; making the shelves for our new Library in the basement of the church are some of them. Your continued help is appreciated to allow us continue to organize the property for a consistent religious life. We are praying and hoping for more vocations. I will not live forever, and it is necessary to ensure a continuity to Catholic Tradition in the Maritimes. The Novus Ordo is dying its natural death and people will start seeking where to turn. Having a solid uncompromised religious house in Moncton is essential. There is no time to loose, no effort to spare. I hope some young men and women who read these lines will consider religious or priestly life. Jesus has made great promises to those who would give their life to Him: «And Peter began to say unto Him: Behold, we have left all things, and have followed thee. Jesus answering, said: Amen I say to you, there is no man who hath left house or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or children, or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who shall not receive an hundred times as much, now in this time; houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions: and in the world to come life everlasting.» (Mark, 10, 28-30) Jesus has promised great joys with persecutions and Life everlasting.

«Do not hesitate to give your life for Holy Mother the Church». (Saint Catherine of Sienna)

A Retreat in Mont Vernon

22 July 2023

Dear friends,

I am coming back from Mont Vernon, a city located between Vancouver, BC, and Seattle, WA. I was on a spiritual retreat. The West Coast is a beautiful place. High mountains just by the sea. Great weather, it seems, all year round. A very corrupt place though. The easy weather probably does not help.

The retreat was most edifying. Bishop McGuire was the preacher and the priests of Seattle received us well. All together, a dozen of clergy members and seminarians participated in the spiritual exercises. It is important, especially for the clergy, to refill our batteries once in a while : one can only give what he has to give.

Pray a lot for the clergy, scattered here and there, busy to take care of your souls. If the Lord accompanies his priests everywhere their ministry brings them, evil spirits are everywhere as well, « seeking whom to devour », and a solid Faith is necessary to persevere. « Resist the devil, strong in the Faith». (I Peter 5,8)

The community has taken, while I was away, a well deserved time of vacation. The bow cannot always be stretched… The next few days will be busy to put ourselves back on track after this moment of rest. We also have to prepare for the altar servers outing and the blessing of Saint-Peter-in-Chains chapel.

Summer is a good occasion to build back our strength. Everything is easier during Summer. The soul easily finds peace at seeing what the Lord has done: « The Heavens sing the glory of God, and the firmament announces the work of His hands. » (Ps. 19, 2) Let us detach ourselves, as much as possible, from our screens and let us contemplate the nature made by God. Let us prefer natural to artificial. Artificial means « deceitful, false, vain. »

The relic of the forearm of Saint Anne in Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré

Let us not fall asleep though in the false peace that is given to us this Summer. Things are not going well. Communism is victorious almost everywhere in the world and we probably have not seen anything yet of the persecution that awaits us. Far from falling into despair, let this thought move us to prepare our soul in watching and praying.

The farm in Stilesville is going well. Greta and Ursula dig deep into the ground without a moment of rest, for the greater damage of planet earth. The rabbits, most probably under the guidance of Francis, are taking vacation in their urge to multiply always more: they don’t like heat. The three female cats have given birth one after the other : a real disaster. The ducks and Alfred the goose have been waddling since the beginning of Summer, without ever getting bored it seems.

A hive has been added to what has now become a zoo. A few tens of thousands of bees work incessantly in a box that seems too small considering their number. To open the hive to verify the frames is unreal. Every bee knows her role. None is doing her own will, but all are at the service of one and the same goal : the survival of the colony. A lesson of detachment and humility. Ah, and I was about to forget May-Belle, the young female dog, an Australian Shepherd, supposed to protect the hives against bears. A good excuse from the community to finally get my consent…

Saint Anne this week, such a good mother, the patron saint of Québec as well, which fell so low in our day and age. I was able last week to go pray in front of the relic of her forearm, kept in Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré. All your intentions were deposited at the feet of Saint Anne.

«O God, come to my assistance. Lord, make haste to help me.»

Work at Saint Peter in Chains Chapel - 4

13 February 2023

Here are a few more pictures of the good work which is being accomplished at Saint Peter in Chains Chapel by the Faithful.

The hardwood floor is almost completed. The ceiling has been painted and lights have been installed.

New Main Altar - 2

11 February 2023

The structure of the Main Altar for Saint Joseph church is now built.

That includes the basis of the altar, the walls and the large altar table, which is 1 3/4 inches thick, 22 inches deep and 7 feet long, all made of solid oak. Yesterday night, we dug the space for the altar stone which will contain the relics of Saint Januaria and Saint Zenon and companions. That was a hard and delicate work, but we made it.

Now will come the fancy work…

This section of the altar is only the first one. There should be a second section in the back which will include the tabernacle.

May Saint Joseph the carpenter come to our aid!

New Main Altar - 1

24 January 2023

Work has started on the new main altar for Saint Joseph church.

On these pictures, you can see that the base of the altar is almost completed.

Restauration of the Last Supper sculpture which will ornate the lower part of the altar is underway.

The altar table is glued and drying.

Finally, you can see a plan of what the altar will look like, God willing.
